The Prophetess - Detail by moonlitraven1
The Prophetess - Detail
I just thought that, since I wasn't working on anything new at the moment, I would go ahead and upload a detail shot of my last work, The Prophetess. I'm really fond of the eyes, and it's a bit hard to see all the details in them in the full version.
Full version:…

Wow, I haven't uploaded anything in a while. Hi, guys :)
This is the deuteragonist of the book I'm currently writing, Ailyn Wiedzym. I used a photograph of Diane Kruger as a reference, because I really can't draw people without one :( sorry. However, the clothes were drawn without a reference, so if they look a it wonky, I apologize .
Painted with Corel Painter 12 over the course of 2 weeks.
Also, three cheers for half-assed backgrounds! Yay!
When logic and reason fail to reach people, art almost never fails. And since I don't have the time or motivation to paint a big flag that says "Homo=Bro", I decided (despite my hatred of poetry) to write a poem in light of the new anti-gay laws that have begun popping up here in the United States. For those who don't know about this or haven't heard, laws have begun being passed that allow business owners to refuse service to those who are gay, or those whom they THINK are gay, on the grounds of "religious freedom", an excuse so poor it's especially insulting that they've applied it there. I've already been on many a rant about it, so I won't repeat myself here unless I'm I'm not gay, so this will likely have no effect on me personally, but so what? Discrimination - LEGAL discrimination - is something that everyone should push back against.
Anyway. Here it is. It's called "Spectrum of Manipulation", until I can think of a better name.

Behind the façade lurks an icy ocean,
A cold abyss of hatred exemplified by the laws set in motion.
Oppression masquerades as religious freedom,
And once again, innocents are swept away in a tide of tedium.

Tired of fighting for liberties they’ll never get,
Sick of struggling within the prejudicial net.
“Always wanting more,” say the close-minded,
Listening to the cries of those under their feet they’ve grinded.

Drop the veil of poorly considered excuses,
And line up the deviants to face the nooses.
“Don’t ask, don’t tell” serves only to strangle their sense of self –
“Your emotions don’t matter, so put your feelings on the shelf!”

Kneel before an altar of injustice, call it religion,
“We’re in control, on our shoulders rests the final decision!”
If ever descends the shroud of shame,
Politicians will shuffle to shift the blame.

Laws are created by those with an underdeveloped sense of empathy,
Leading to the corrosion and decay of our society.
Agony, atrophy, agony, atrophy, all for sake of a falsely-based philosophy.
The cycle goes on endlessly, oppressing others to prove your piety.

Sow animosity rather than acceptance,
Cling to the past and face the future with reluctance.
“Abominations all, so our god describes,
Execute them all, such as the vellum prescribes!”

Try, try to reason with the unkind
But always in the end, cry for mankind.
Yet hope is never lost and there always is a way,
No matter how far from kindness and compassion we stray.

Before anything and everything else,
Before gay, straight, black, white, Christian, Muslim…
Before our position in the societal spectrum,
We are all human first and foremost.

Well hello :) Call me Ishmael or just call me Rachel since that's my name unfortunately I'm a traditional artist who's currently expanding out of her comfort zone and into digital art. And who REALLY NEEDS TO UPDATE HER GALLERY TO PUT MORE CURRENT TRADITIONAL GOODNESS UP. *sigh*
Here are a few things about me:
I love fiction way too much - any kind of fiction. My two favorite book series are the Harry Potter series by J.K. Rowling and A Song of Ice and Fire by George R.R. Martin. I love discussing books.
My favorite genre of music is symphonic metal, and my favorite band is Epica
My favorite color is all of them
If you want to know anything about me, just ask. Don't worry about offending me, because you probably won't.
Also, if I ever come off as creepy, I promise I'm not T-T it's just social awkwardness, you understand.
